A Level 3 Qualified AAT Bookkeeper is entitled to apply for associate bookkeeping membership and use the designatory letters ‘AATQB’ after their name.

AAT’s bookkeeping membership offers you the opportunity to demonstrate your bookkeeping skills and expertise to employers, colleagues and clients. You’ll gain professional recognition and can even apply to become self-employed and offer bookkeeping services to your own clients (subject to conditions).

You will be required sit an exam at the end of each unit.

The first three units making up the Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Bookkeeping and Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting Software are:

Bookkeeping Transactions (BTRN)

This unit introduces you to double entry bookkeeping, the different types of accounts and records a business keeps and how to enter transactions into the accounts.

Bookkeeping Controls (BKCL)

This unit follows on nicely from Bookkeeping Transactions. You will learn how to identify errors in the accounts and make corrections. You will also learn about the banking system and how to create a full set of accounts up to trial balance.

Using Accounting Software (UACS)

For this unit you will be required to use your knowledge of bookkeeping and double entry to enter a company’s data into a computerised system.

We base this unit on using Sage 50 Professional software. This is the most popular choice in the industry and used extensively by employers and accountancy practices. The fundamentals of data entry are covered within this unit but as this is a work entry level we also offer the Sage 50 Professional courses and certificate as an inclusive option. This has proven to be our most popular choice over the years as it provides more employment opportunities.

The 3 units covering Level 3 are:-

Advanced Bookkeeping (AVBK)

This unit follows on from trial balance stage at level 2. You will learn how to prepare accounts from partial information, correction of errors and how to produce an Extended Trial Balance in preparation of preparing financial statements.

Final Accounts Preparation (FAPR)

You will learn how to prepare financial accounts (statement of profit and loss and statement of financial position) for sole traders and partnerships.

Indirect Tax (IDRX)

This unit covers the treatment of VAT, VAT thresholds, when to register for VAT, how to complete a VAT return and all you need to know about VAT for the small to medium business.

Professional ethics are covered within all of the above units.

*This course also contains 3 workbooks covering Sage 50 Professional Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced.*

What a Supportive Team

I was recommended Training Link by a friend so thought I would give them a go, as I am keen to leave my current employment and branch out alone in a new career. I was nervous about returning to studies after so long. Doubly so, doing it at home, on my own, in a subject I had never explored before. From the first contact with Training Link I realised that yes, I might be at home studying but I am most definitely not alone. Regular emails with Tutors, online forums and resources, not to mention the peer support in the Facebook group have kept me on track and fully focused. The manuals/textbooks sent out are easy to follow and a mix of reading and activities putting that learning in to practice which hits my learning style. Being able to do a ‘introductory’ course was great as it enabled me to ensure Bookkeeping was definitely something I wanted to get in to, without spending lots of money on something I might not want to continue. So far in my studies I have had contact with a few different tutors who have all been incredibly supportive, full of advice and speedy responses. All feedback is very personal and unique to you and your needs. The online resources and mock exams have been invaluable in cementing learning and preparing me for exams. I am part way through my studies and enjoying making each step closer to my goal, with the brilliant support of Training Link.
