Jo Querelle – JQ Business Services
“In 2015, after more than 15 years working in various roles at a multinational company, I had the opportunity to leave as part of a severance programme. I seized this as a chance to think about what I really wanted from my career. I had always wanted to work for myself but up until then it had never been realistic and besides, I never knew what I wanted to do!
All my roles as an employee involved IT systems, data and analysis, and I’d also worked in payroll, which I had really enjoyed. One day, whilst looking for job ideas, I came across an advert for payroll & bookkeeping. That was my ‘light bulb’ moment. I began to research in earnest and quickly decided that bookkeeping was for me and that joining the ICB would be a great move for someone who was new to the profession and aiming to be self-employed. Once I’d made this decision I looked at the various training providers on the ICB website and identified Training Link as my preferred choice. I requested a free trial study pack and found it very easy to work through.
In the end it took me two years to complete my studies and gain my Practice Licence, whilst juggling part-time work and family commitments. Throughout that time the materials and support from Training Link were outstanding, in particular the responsiveness of my tutors, who consistently surpassed expectations.
I am now studying for my Payroll Diploma (with Training Link of course!) and establishing my bookkeeping practice. I also provide general business support to small business and sole-traders, leaving them free to concentrate on developing their core business.
I am particularly interested in working with sole traders and small businesses as it’s such an interesting and diverse world, and very different to the large corporate world I spent the first part of my career in. So many people start up a business because they have a particular skill or passion, but this doesn’t necessarily mean they have the knowledge or inclination to manage the finances and administration of their venture. Unfortunately, poor management of these things can be a critical factor in the success or failure of a business.
Based in Warwick, South Warwickshire, I’m extremely excited about running my own practice and, more importantly, about being able to make a valuable contribution to the success and growth of other people’s dreams.”
