TL: Can you tell us a bit about your background and what led you to consider a career change?

William: “During the pandemic, I found myself working as a teacher, a role I had cherished for many years. However, as time passed, I began to crave a new challenge. I wanted to explore a different path, one that could reignite my passion for learning and professional growth. After some introspective research, including personality assessments like the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and the Enneagram, I discovered that I was ready to pivot into a new field. TL: How has your career progressed since completing the course?

William: “Shortly after completing AAT Level 2 in Accounting, I took my first role in finance at a private school in Suffolk. Initially, my responsibilities focused on bookkeeping, but as I settled into the position, my role expanded to encompass various aspects of the finance function. This experience was invaluable; while I learned a great deal from the practical side of working in finance, the theoretical knowledge I had acquired from Levels 3 and 4 provided a solid foundation for understanding my responsibilities. Eager to further my experience and skills, I transitioned to a local accountancy firm as a bookkeeper. Over the past year, I’ve had the opportunity to regularly complete VAT and CIS returns for clients, in addition to providing bookkeeping and training services. Each day presents new learning opportunities, and I continue to study Level 4 in my spare time to deepen my expertise.”

William: “Like any educational endeavour, my journey was not without challenges. Time management became a pressing concern as I juggled work and personal obligations. However, with a clear study plan and strategic use of my time outside work, I was able to navigate these hurdles.
