From NHS to Numbers: Nicole’s Journey to Becoming a Certified Bookkeeper
Embracing Challenges and Charting a New Course in Finance
My Background
I have always been interested in numbers and finance, but I did not pursue a career in accounting until recently. I used to work for the NHS, where I gained valuable skills and experience in the healthcare sector. However, I felt that I needed a change of direction and a new challenge, something that would stimulate my brain and allow me to use my analytical and problem-solving abilities.
My Decision to Study Bookkeeping
I chose to study the ICB Level 2 & 3 course package through Training Link because they offered flexible and convenient online learning. The tutors were very welcoming and knowledgeable, and they helped me understand the concepts and principles of double-entry bookkeeping, accounts preparation, and data entry using software. They also explained things in the simplest of ways, which was very helpful for me, as maths was not my strongest subject at school.
I enjoyed my studies and I was very proud of myself when I passed the exams and achieved the ICB qualifications. These qualifications demonstrate my professional expertise and competence as a bookkeeper. They also allow me to apply for a practice licence with the ICB, which gives me access to a range of benefits and resources, such as networking opportunities, legal advice, and discounts on software and insurance.
Future Goals and Development
My ultimate goal is to run my own bookkeeping business from home, as this would give me more flexibility and control over my work-life balance. I also want to be able to work around childcare, as I plan to have children in the future. I think that being self-employed would suit me well, as I am organised, motivated, and reliable. I also have good communication and interpersonal skills, which are essential for building rapport and trust with clients.
However, I have not yet started my bookkeeping business, as I have had some life events that have prevented me from doing so. I do not want to rush into anything without proper planning and preparation, as I know that starting a business is not easy and requires a lot of dedication and hard work. I want to make sure that I have everything in place, such as a business plan, a marketing strategy, and a client base, before I launch my venture.
I am also keen to continue my professional development and education, by taking further courses or qualifications that would enhance my career prospects and credibility.
I am very determined and passionate about bookkeeping, and I hope to achieve my dream of running my own business soon. I believe that I have the potential and the qualifications to succeed in this field, and I am ready to take on any challenges that may come my way.
