Leanne’s journey from office junior to finance expert
Leanne’s story is a testament to determination, resilience, and the pursuit of knowledge. Her path from an office junior to a finance expert showcases her passion for numbers and her unwavering ambition.
Discovering Her Passion
Leanne’s story begins as many do; Instead of pursuing further education after leaving school, she stepped directly into the working world. As an office junior at a solicitors’ firm, she found herself surrounded by paperwork, ringing phones, and the hum of legal activity. But amidst the hustle, Leanne rediscovered her passion for numbers.
Mathematics had always been her favourite subject in school, and now it became her secret weapon. She quickly transitioned from mundane tasks to handling financial matters within the firm. The finance department became her playground, and she relished every moment. Leanne’s journey was marked by curiosity and determination—traits that would serve her well in the years to come.
A Leap of Ambition
Fifteen years into her career, Leanne faced a crossroads. She had climbed the ladder within her current firm, but she hungered for more. Blacks Solicitors beckoned—a fresh canvas where she could paint her future. Initially tasked with implementing credit control, Leanne’s expertise soon transformed her role. She wasn’t content with routine tasks; she wanted to shape the financial landscape of the firm.
And shape it she did. Leanne began creating financial reports, analysing data, and providing insights that went beyond the numbers. Her title then evolved to Finance Analyst. Leanne’s ambition knew no bounds, and her impact rippled through the organisation.
It was at this point in May 2021 that she took the decision to start studying for her AAT qualifications with Training Link.
“I have always been a highly motivated individual with a thirst for knowledge and the idea of cementing my many years’ experience into a recognised qualification really appealed to me.”
Leanne chose distance learning as she felt the flexibility it provided, along with her organisational skills, would help her complete her studies whilst working full time. She felt extremely supported by the tutors at Training Link, even though you weren’t in a classroom environment, any communication was responded to promptly.
Hard work and determination paid off and she completed Level 2 in eight months, and with a 98% distinction.
Whilst progressing through Level 3, she started assisting in preparing the management accounts at work, which showed the progression these qualifications were bringing to her job.
She completed Level 3 in eleven months and felt a real sense of achievement that she had completed the first two levels in around 18 months. Her goal was to complete Level 4 by the end of her firm’s financial year (Mar 2024).
Overcoming Challenges
But life isn’t a straight path. Just as Leanne was poised for greater heights, adversity struck. Serious health issues forced her to pause—a detour she hadn’t anticipated. Hospitalised and then recuperating at home, she faced uncertainty. Would she lose the momentum she had built? Would her dreams slip away?
Yet, Leanne’s spirit remained unbroken.
Her employers rallied around her, offering unwavering support.
Training Link adjusted timelines, ensuring she didn’t rush her recovery. And so, she persevered. Even during those challenging months, Leanne’s mind buzzed with formulas, financial theories, and the promise of Level 4—the pinnacle of her AAT journey.
The Stepping Stone
Now, as Leanne stands on the brink of completing Level 4, her journey feels like a symphony—a crescendo of dedication, setbacks, and triumphs. Her confidence has grown alongside her knowledge. The AAT qualification isn’t just a certificate; it’s a testament to her resilience. It’s the stepping stone that bridges her past accomplishments with future aspirations.
Leanne envisions ACCA or CIMA—the advanced qualifications that will elevate her expertise. Her employers recognise the value she brings—the way her applied knowledge transforms spreadsheets into strategic decisions. And so, she marches forward, fuelled by ambition and a thirst for learning.
When Leanne completes Level 4, it won’t be merely a tick box—it’ll be an anthem of victory. The office junior turned finance expert, the numbers whisperer, the woman who defied convention—she’ll stand tall, knowing that her journey isn’t just about herself. It’s about inspiring others to embrace their unique paths, to chase knowledge, and to turn setbacks into stepping stones.
Leanne’s story isn’t over; it’s a chapter in progress. And as we eagerly await her triumphant finale, we celebrate her courage, her resilience, and the beauty of lifelong learning.
In Leanne’s own words:
“I felt each level grew in difficulty, but my confidence also grew as I gained more knowledge. It will be an immensely proud day for me when I compete Level 4, due to the hard work I have put in to all three levels whilst working full time and dealing with health issues. I have already seen growth and progress at work due to the increased understanding and applied knowledge the course has given me. As I worked my way through each level my ambition grew, and the AAT qualification will provide a stepping stone to continue my studies with further advanced qualifications (ACCA or CIMA) which will be valued by my employers.”
