More than half of British workers are unhappy in their jobs
Conduct any research on job satisfaction and it might not come as a great surprise to see that more than half (55.6%) of the British workforce is unhappy in their jobs. Roughly 1,200 workers were surveyed by CV library recently and inadequate pay, lack of career progression and poor company culture were among the main reasons given as to why they were unhappy.
It concluded: –
- Poor salaries – 9%
- Lack of space for furthering their careers – 6%
- A bad company culture – 8%
- Poor work-life balance – 8%
- Boring daily routine – 7%
- Dislike the working hours – 3%
- Dislike the boss – 9%
- Long commute – 6%
- Dislike colleagues – 5%
I recently stumbled upon a brief video from Rob Dial (who, after some research is a performance coach and speaker who is “obsessed with personal growth and teaching it to others.”)
The core of this video was thus: –
“If you don’t like your job, QUIT IT!
Find another way to make money.
It’s okay to wake up tomorrow and completely reinvent yourself and become the person you’ve always wanted to be!
It’s never too late to start.”
Now, whilst I agree with the premise, I wouldn’t recommend you just quit your job…BUT…I would certainly recommend you find another way to make money!
We have had an innumerable amount of students that have gone on to start their own bookkeeping businesses. In this way, they are in complete control of their:
- salaries
- career progression
- company culture
- work-life balance
- daily routine
- working environment
- workforce
So, as you can see from the above, working for yourself would negate pretty much all of the points that make workers dissatisfied with their jobs! Of course, being a self-employed bookkeeper has its own challenges, but we think the positives far outweigh the negatives.
The demand for quality self-employed bookkeepers has never been as big as it is now.
Findings from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) have outlined that The number of self-employed increased from 3.3 million people (12.0% of the labour force) in 2001 to 4.8 million (15.1% of the labour force) in 2017.

So, if you’re serious about making a REAL change, don’t just buy a course, purchase the key to a new career!
