ICB Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping

On this level 2 ICB qualification, you will learn the principles that underpin double-entry bookkeeping. And upon completion, you will be able to competently manage the bookkeeping and accounts for your own or your partner’s business, or apply for Jobs in Bookkeeping and Accounts.

ICB Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping

In this level 3 course, you will learn how to produce a VAT Return, control the sales and purchases ledgers, and post year-end adjustments. You will also learn how to produce the final accounts for sole traders, partnerships, not-for-profit organisations and Limited Companies. You’ll understand the basics of the different accounting standards (IFRS and UKGAAP).

On completion of levels 2 and 3 bookkeeping, you can upgrade your ICB membership status and use the letters MICB after your name. You can also use the title of ‘ICB Certified Bookkeeper’. You will also be able to work as a self-employed bookkeeper or work for a company as a bookkeeper.

The level 4 units can open up extra revenue streams, enabling you to file accounts of any business type to year-end without the need for an accountant.

This would therefore maximise the amount you can earn from each client.

Completion of this course package will entitle you to apply for Fellow membership with the ICB.

Level 2 Bookkeeping

For the Level 2 course, there are three exams. The ‘A1’ and ‘A2’ exams are online so you will need a reliable Internet connection and a computer.

The ‘A3’ Paper is a home-based assignment where you will need to upload a report.

Level 3 Bookkeeping

For the Level 3 course, there are four 3-hour online exams. They can be taken at home or your place of work. You will need a reliable Internet connection and a computer.

The fifth exam is a 2-hour synoptic. This would typically be taken at an ICB exam centre, however, since Coronavirus this is currently available by remote invigilation. You would need to keep your webcam turned on throughout the exam.

Level 4 Corporation Tax (For Micro and Small Businesses)

There is one three-hour exam.

You can take this from home or work. You will have 2 weeks from when you receive the exam to take it. Once activated you will have 3 hours to complete it.

Level 4 Financial Statements (For Micro and Small Businesses)

There is one three-hour exam.

You can take this from home or work. You will have 2 weeks from when you receive the exam to take it. Once activated you will have 3 hours to complete it.

Level 4 Self Assessment Tax

This is assessed by one online assessment, taken in the candidate’s home or place of work.

The assessment will be available to complete for a period of 48 hours.

The exam is a series of tasks, such as entering amounts into screens that resemble an online self-assessment return. Other tasks involve calculations that show an understanding of the calculation of tax, National Insurance Contributions, Capital Allowances, Capital Gains Tax and adjusted net profit.
