Charmian Heys – Now Bookkeeping Ltd

Charmian gained her ICB Practice Licence and started her own bookkeeping business after studying her ICB qualifications with Training Link

ICB award winner and Feefo Platinum Award winner

“Being a sporting person, at school I was never particularly academic. Consequently, I really could not wait to stop studying and start working.

Inevitably I headed for a short-term career in the leisure industry, which was fun but I soon realised it was not a long-term career, so I joined the British Army. Life has a way of making you change directions and sadly, due to an injury, I did not make it out of basic training and I was given a medical discharge.

After a summer of doing menial jobs I joined a factory working on the shop floor as a temporary staff member. I always put myself forward for jobs and was fortunate to gain the attention for the management team. I was asked if I wanted to do other roles within the factory, of which I said yes……and so began my accounting life, being introduced to Accounts Payable.

“Fast forward 10 years (during which time I achieved my AAT Level 4 Technician qualification) I finally left the factory as an Assistant Management Accountant to pursue a career as a Dental Practice Manager. While my accounting role was significantly reduced, I increased my customer service skills and gained valuable experience working with a wide variety of people. After 10 years I made the decision to return back to Accounts, refreshing my accounting knowledge by studying Level 2 Bookkeeping qualification with Training Link.”

“I achieved 96% Distinction for my Level 2 and 95% Distinction for my Level 3”

“I enjoyed it so much I have decided to continue with my studies to obtain my Level 3 and Level 4 qualifications. The guidance from the tutors Steve and Angela Capeling was so helpful combined with the exam tutor Bev Roberts I achieved 96% Distinction for my Level 2 and 95% Distinction for my Level 3.

After 3 years of working at various levels of accounting I decided to leave my employment to start a bookkeeping business with my friend who is a tax accountant with her own business – Now Bookkeeping Ltd was born. We felt it was a match made in heaven as we both love our respective roles. We offer a full service, but essential to our core is we want to help empower the business owners to understand their accounts better, so we are happy to do “one-off-jobs” with a spot of simple training on the basics with their respective accounting systems.”

“Training Link has been integral to helping me achieve everything I have done in the past 6 months”

“To obtain a Practice Licence from the ICB I was required to be a Level 3 qualified bookkeeper. We are very ethical and it is important for us to have the professional qualifications to show we are self-regulating. Training Link has been integral to helping me achieve everything I have done in the past 6 months and I would absolutely recommend them; the communication is amazing, the learning material is easy to understand and I would return to them as a first point of call for training requirements in the future.”

We have a passion for accounting and bookkeeping and a desire to provide a service that can help business owners save their precious time and gives great value
