What is the AAT Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping?
It's the qualification that completes the AAT bookkeeping pathway. You'll cover two units: Financial Accounting – Preparing Financial Statements, and Tax Processes for Businesses, which includes VAT and the principles of payroll.
Do I need to complete Level 2 before starting Level 3?
Yes — you'll need to hold the AAT Level 2 Bookkeeping qualification or equivalent experience. If you already have relevant experience or qualifications, get in touch or use our AAT Skills Check, and we can advise on possible exemptions.
Does Level 3 lead to AATQB status?
Yes. Completing the Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping makes you eligible to apply for Associate Bookkeeping Membership (AATQB), and later, AAT Licensed Bookkeeper status.
What jobs can Level 3 lead to?
Skills developed on this qualification can lead to roles such as Professional Bookkeeper, Senior Bookkeeper, Accounts Manager, or Ledger Manager.
How long does Level 3 take to complete?
The course carries 120–140 learning hours and can be completed in up to 9 months, with 2 exams to sit. Most students take between 3 and 9 months, and as it's distance learning you can move at your own pace.
